The COP27 Climate Summit concluded early on Sunday morning with an accord hailed as both a significant advancement and a massive letdown. Among the world leaders present were Sameh Shoukry, the president of COP27, Simon Stiell, the executive director of the UNFCCC, Antonio Guterres, the secretary general of the UN, Alok Sharma, the president of COP26, and many others.
The agreement authorized the implementation of plans like:
- Helping climate-vulnerable nations cope with climate-related Loss and Damage
- Decreasing the use of fossil fuels
- Funding adaption and mitigation programs in developing nations
