Following the successful testing of cutting-edge vehicle-to-grid technology (V2G), Octopus Energy Group and National Grid ESO concluded that one million electric vehicles (EVs) could export power to the grid equal to that produced by 5,000 onshore wind turbines. In addition, the Balancing Mechanism (BM), the primary tool used by the National Grid ESO to balance the UK’s energy system in real-time, was tested in a real-world setting during the real-world testing.
The V2G system could:
- Assist EVs in saving up to £840 annually
- Help Octopus to pay less for grid balancing.
- Reduce emissions of carbon
