Engineering services company Worley is collaborating with Green Lithium to build a large-scale merchant lithium refinery in Teesside, UK. This initiative will ensure a supply of low-carbon, battery-grade lithium chemicals that will be used in the European market to manufacture energy storage systems and electric vehicles (EVs).
The objective of the proposed refinery include:
- Production of 50,000 tonnes of battery-grade lithium each year
- Meeting six percent of anticipated battery demand for the European markets by 2030
- Facilitate the transition to sustainable energy by supplying low-carbon lithium chemicals
