Swiss citizens have voted in favour of a bill aimed at introducing new climate measures to sharply curb the nation’s greenhouse gas emissions. The referendum was prompted by a campaign by scientists and environmentalists to save Switzerland’s glaciers. These glaciers are melting away at an alarming rate.
The proposed measures included in the government plan include:
- Achieving “net zero” emissions by 2050
- Setting aside more than 3 billion Swiss francs to help move companies and homeowners off fossil fuels
