Norway, Europe’s second-largest oil and gas exporter after Russia, intends to diversify its industrial base, taking advantage of its access to rare earth, metals, and minerals essential to the continent’s future aspirations for environmentally-friendly batteries.
As part of their efforts to combat climate change, Norway and the European Union confirmed close collaboration on battery value chains and raw material supply during a visit to Norway by European Commission Vice President Maros Sefcovic.
This collaboration will see:
- Participation of Norway, a non-EU country, in the European Battery Alliance ministerial meetings
- Discussion of the implementation of a ‘rules-of-origin’ clause resulting from the Brexit agreement
