Energy company Avangrid’s Vineyard Wind 1 project is all set to become the United States’ first commercial-scale offshore wind project. The first turbine belonging to this project was installed in waters off Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts. Avangrid CEO Pedro Azagra has described the news as a monumental achievement for the U.S. energy industry.
The Vineyard Wind 1 project will consist of:
- 62 wind turbines to generate 806 Megawatts
- Capacity to generate enough power for more than 400,000 homes and businesses in Massachusetts
- 13 megawatt versions of GE Vernova’s huge Haliade-X turbines
