An all-time high of over 40 percent of the US total energy output was supplied by carbon-free sources in 2022. The majority of this increase comes from renewable sources of energy such as wind and solar. Construction of renewables facilities in the US in 2022 has slowed slightly when compared to previous years.
Nuclear power is considered carbon-free as nuclear reactors do not produce direct carbon dioxide emissions.
