Angela Wilkinson, the secretary general and CEO of the London-based World Energy Council, has mentioned that natural gas can be a transition fuel to bridge the gap between a world dominated by fossil fuels and one where renewables are in the majority. Hydrogen is also seen as a potential tool in shifting to a net-zero future.
Through its report, the Intergovernmental Panel on climate change has stressed the need for urgent action on the climate front.
The transition to renewable energy faces several challenges, including:
- Being dependent on a complex combination of factors involving technology, finance, and international cooperation
- The slow pace of renewable-powered electrification
- Using hydrogen as a green fuel on a large scale
