As part of their effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the New Zealand government announced that they are thinking of paying for cleaner hybrid or electric automobiles to assist lower-income families in replacing their outdated gas vehicles with cleaner ones. The strategy is a step toward New Zealand’s commitments under the 2016 Paris Agreement on climate change, along with the country’s declared aim of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
The plan includes:
- Subsidies for firms to reduce emissions
- Transitioning to a 100% green bus fleet by 2050
- Curbside food waste collection system for the vast majority
